New Delhi | February 2026
Bharat Technology and Impact Accelerator (Bharatia) and Grassroots Energy have entered into a Master Collaboration Agreement to jointly develop, finance, and deploy a large-scale compressed biogas (CBG) platform across India. The collaboration is designed to deliver commercially viable, standardised and replicable bioenergy infrastructure aligned with India’s clean energy transition and industrial decarbonisation priorities.
Why this Matters for India
India’s pathway to net-zero requires credible alternatives for sectors that rely on fossil-based thermal energy and gaseous fuels. Industrial biogas—when deployed at scale and integrated with advanced processing and downstream clean-fuel applications—offers a pragmatic solution that reduces emissions, strengthens domestic energy security, and creates new rural and industrial value chains.
This collaboration seeks to move biogas from fragmented projects to a platform-scale asset class, capable of attracting long-term institutional capital.
Platform Scale and Pipeline
The initial phase of the collaboration targets:
Over 30 projects across India in phase 1
Aggregate capacity of approximately 350 TPD
Individual plant sizes ranging from 1 to 25 TPD, covering both decentralised and industrial use cases
Projects will supply clean gaseous fuels to manufacturing units, community applications, and downstream processing hubs, displacing LPG, furnace oil, diesel and natural gas.
Four Pillars of Differentiation
The platform is structured around four core pillars that materially improve economics, scalability, and bankability:
1. Feedstock Management Dedicated biomass collection centres, supported by a structured commodity approach, ensure reliable, traceable and cost-efficient feedstock supply.
2. Advanced Feedstock Pre-treatment High-quality enzymes and pre-treatment processes are deployed to enhance digestion efficiency and maximise gas generation across diverse feedstock profiles.
3. Bio-refinery Model Beyond biogas, the platform integrates a bio-refinery approach to extract lignin derivatives and other by-products—unlocking additional, high-margin revenue streams and improving overall project economics.
4. Downstream Energy Vectors Biogas produced under the platform will increasingly feed into advanced energy vectors including Green Hydrogen, Green Methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), positioning the platform at the centre of India’s emerging clean-fuels ecosystem.
From FOAK to NOAK—and into Capital Markets
Projects will be developed using a FOAK-to-NOAK framework, with standardised designs, contracts, offtake structures, and financing models. Once operationally stabilised, assets developed under the platform are expected to become a key feeder into the Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) that Bharatia is launching imminently, enabling long-term ownership, asset aggregation, and recycling of development capital.
---------------- About Bharatia
Bharat Technology and Impact Accelerator (Bharatia) is a climate and impact platform focused on translating proven technologies into scalable, investable infrastructure across India and the Global South.
Bharatia operates through three integrated commercial divisions, designed to move solutions seamlessly from innovation to capital markets:
1. Technology Licensing & Commercialisation Bharatia sources, validates, and licenses proven global technologies for deployment in India and other emerging markets, accelerating commercial adoption while reducing technology and execution risk.
2. Project Development & Platform Creation Through its project development arm, Bharatia structures and delivers First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) projects and scales them into replicable Nth-of-a-Kind (NOAK) platforms across sectors such as energy, clean fuels, water, waste, mobility, digital infrastructure, and healthcare.
3. Investment Management & Capital Formation Bharatia’s investment management division focuses on asset aggregation and capital formation, enabling mature platforms to access long-term institutional capital through structured finance vehicles, including listed funds and infrastructure trusts.
Together, these three divisions enable Bharatia to create bankable climate infrastructure at scale, bridging the gap between technology, execution, and global capital markets.
About Grassroots Energy
Grassroots Energy is a bioenergy firm with operations in the distributed energy segment. The circular economy approach provides two climate change solutions: carbon neutral clean fuels like Compressed Biogas & BioHydrogen and organic fertilizers. The clean fuels generated are energy, water efficient with innovations including microbial, mechanical, and chemical processes to produce modular clean fuels. The residue from operations is processed into fortified organic fertilizers enriching the soil conditions. www.grassrootsenergy.co
