Building a Corridor of Innovation, Investment and Impact
23–24 October 2025 | Sofia & Plovdiv, Bulgaria

Bharatia, India’s leading platform for accelerating technology and impact investments, launched its fourth SITE Network (Science, Innovation, Technology and Economics) of the year on 23rd October 2025 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The India–Bulgaria SITE Network marks another major milestone in Bharatia’s ongoing effort to create global corridors that connect technology ecosystems, investment capital, and industrial capacity between India and partner nations.
The launch was held in partnership with and with the support of the Embassy of India, Sofia, Bulgaria, underscoring the growing momentum in India–Bulgaria relations. The event brought together policymakers, technology innovators, research institutions, and investors from both countries to explore collaborative pathways for commercialising innovation and scaling high-impact technologies.
Setting the Tone: India’s Expanding Global Horizon

Opening the event, H.E. Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu, the Ambassador of India to Bulgaria, highlighted the immense opportunities that lie ahead for bilateral engagement.
He remarked, “India is not only the largest democracy in the world but also one of the most dynamic economies. It is a huge consumer market on its way to becoming the world’s third-largest economy before the end of this decade. With a median age of 28 years, India’s young demography represents both energy and potential. As India’s consumptive power rises, its market will continue to expand—offering unparalleled opportunities for partners like Bulgaria.”
Ambassador Sahu emphasised that India’s rapid transformation—from manufacturing to digital innovation—creates fertile ground for collaboration with nations that share a strong R&D base and technical expertise. He noted that Bulgaria, with its EU market access and competitive capabilities in ICT, data sciences, and advanced manufacturing, is well positioned to engage with India across multiple sectors.
Bharatia’s Vision: Accelerating FOAK to NOAK

Mr. Sanmit Ahuja**, CEO of Bharatia, delivered the keynote address outlining a strategic framework for building a high-impact India–Bulgaria corridor under the SITE Network. He spoke about the FOAK–NOAK (First-of-a-Kind to Nth-of-a-Kind) investment model that Bharatia has successfully deployed across India and the Global South—turning innovative technologies into scalable, commercially viable solutions.
“The essence of SITE Networks is to bridge science with markets, and innovation with capital. India and Bulgaria share a unique complementarity: India brings scale, affordability, and a thriving start-up ecosystem; Bulgaria brings advanced R&D, ICT excellence, and cost-effective EU access. Together, we can hyper-accelerate technology deployment and create sustainable economic value for both countries,” said Sanmit Ahuja.
He presented Bharatia’s ETV Programme (Environment & Technology Verification) as the key mechanism to hyper-accelerate Bulgarian technologies into the Indian market. The programme identifies promising innovations, provides them with on-ground testing and demonstration opportunities in India, and then integrates them into Bharatia’s FOAK-to-NOAK pipeline for scaling.
Participation from Bulgaria’s Technology Ecosystem

Over 30 Bulgarian technology companies from sectors such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, food processing, logistics, and aerospace attended the launch event. The enthusiasm reflected Bulgaria’s growing ambition to internationalise its innovation ecosystem and tap into the massive Indian market.
The event also attracted representatives from Bulgarian government agencies, investment promotion bodies, and universities, who expressed keen interest in structured collaboration with India through Bharatia’s SITE framework.
Strategic Areas of Collaboration
The India–Bulgaria SITE Network will focus on three major pillars of collaboration, each designed to drive bilateral growth through innovation, investment, and institutional partnerships.
1. Exclusive Projects for Bulgarian Technologies in India
Bharatia and its Indian partners will facilitate the entry of Bulgarian technologies into India through pilot projects, FOAK demonstrations, and scaling under the ETV programme. Priority focus areas include:
Battery Technologies – Bulgarian innovations in lithium-ion alternatives, energy storage, and recycling will be evaluated for integration into India’s fast-growing electric mobility and renewable sectors.
Advanced Manufacturing (including Drones) – Opportunities in industrial automation, precision engineering, and unmanned systems for logistics and agriculture.
Aerospace and Defence Applications – Joint design and development initiatives, leveraging India’s manufacturing scale and Bulgaria’s R&D strengths.
Logistics and Supply Chain Technologies – Enhancing efficiency, resilience, and traceability through digital platforms and automation tools.
Healthcare Technologies – Digital health platforms, diagnostics, and biomedical devices suited for India’s high-volume, cost-sensitive markets.
Food Technology – From sustainable packaging to cold-chain innovations and food processing automation, aimed at improving food security and export potential.
Each of these projects will be developed under the FOAK-to-NOAK pathway, with Bharatia structuring innovative financing models—blended finance, technology leasing, and performance-linked investment—to ensure rapid commercialisation and market entry.
2. Initiating Indian Investments into Bulgaria
The second pillar of collaboration focuses on encouraging Indian investments into Bulgaria, particularly in areas aligned with Bulgaria’s national development priorities and industrial zones. The following sectors were highlighted:
Energy Infrastructure – Including renewables, smart grids, and district energy systems.
Battery Manufacturing – Establishing joint ventures and supply-chain partnerships to produce next-generation batteries for European markets.
Education and Research Infrastructure – Collaboration between Indian universities and Bulgarian institutions to create joint innovation and training centres, particularly in STEM disciplines.
Construction and Real Estate – Supporting green and sustainable construction practices, including modular housing and climate-resilient infrastructure.
This two-way investment model is designed to build mutual economic resilience—where Bulgarian technologies gain market access in India, and Indian capital finds attractive opportunities in Bulgaria’s strategic industries.
3. Broader Collaborative Themes
Beyond sectoral partnerships, both sides expressed intent to expand cooperation in:
Boosting Bilateral Trade – Expanding product lines, improving logistics connectivity, and building stronger B2B linkages.
Talent and Capacity Building – Joint education and exchange programmes to develop a new generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
Joint Innovation Ventures – Establishing Indo–Bulgarian innovation clusters, co-funded R&D projects, and shared testbeds.
Creative and Cultural Industries – Recognising the role of culture, design, and media as soft-power connectors that enrich bilateral ties.
Expanding the Partnership: Roundtable at Trakia Economic Zone

Following the launch in Sofia, Bharatia and the Embassy of India co-organised a roundtable session on 24th October 2025 at the Trakia Economic Zone in Plovdiv, one of the largest industrial and logistics hubs in Bulgaria. The roundtable brought together leading academic and research institutions, technology parks, and private sector stakeholders.
Discussions centred on developing a pipeline of commercial demonstration projects and identifying key policy and financial enablers to accelerate India–Bulgaria collaboration. Participants from universities and R&D centres proposed joint applied research initiatives, particularly in clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and smart manufacturing.
The Road Ahead
Bharatia and the Embassy of India in Bulgaria announced that they will organise regular briefing sessions in the coming months, expanding the list of projects and connecting more stakeholders from both sides. These sessions will serve as the platform to track progress, align interests, and build momentum for the India–Bulgaria SITE Network.
The India–Bulgaria Network marks the fourth SITE launch of 2025, following successful corridors established earlier this year. Each SITE Network reflects Bharatia’s mission to translate global partnerships into tangible economic outcomes—where innovation finds markets, capital finds purpose, and collaboration drives impact.
The launch of the India–Bulgaria SITE Network signals more than a partnership—it marks the beginning of a long-term journey of co-creation. As both countries align their strengths in science, innovation, and enterprise, a powerful corridor of opportunity emerges—one that can transform not just bilateral trade, but the shared future of innovation-led growth in Europe and the Global South.
